Brownie: "fashion god"

I am happy to admit that I send a lot of bullshit e-mails while I am at work. Some of you have been happy to receive them. I am also happy to admit that my job is not very important and aside from a handful of up-tight lawyers and a few legal publishers, no one ever depends on me for anything at all.

Michael Brown, on the other hand, used to have what should have been a very important job, one that he should have taken very seriously.

In the news today… In the midst of Hurricane Katrina, around the time that Condoleezza Rice was shopping for shoes on Fifth Avenue, the then head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was e-mailing his cronies about his wardrobe.

“If you'll look at my lovely FEMA attire, you'll really vomit. I am a fashion god.”

What a dick.

Oh my God, Riggs. I had no idea you paid attention to news from Europe. I guess then you also know about the CIA prisons in Poland and Romania, and that the CIA also took prisoners through Budapest.

Well, Riggs, let me explain the difference. In France, disenfranchised youth are running amok. In the CIA story, the most powerful government in the world is running amok. Which do you think is more newsworthy?

Riggs, the riots are terrible and people are doing terrible things, however you have to look at the underlying reasons. In this case, one of the reasons is a whole sub-class of extremely disenfranchised immigrant youth.

And for you, Riggs, I will try to stop hating the US government for 2 minutes, but I really doubt I'll be able to do it.

Maybe they are not wanted in France. Maybe it is just as simple as that. Can you blame the French? Why don't we talk about how white immigrants would be treated in Somolia or some other African country? White people need to stop apologizing for thugs and their actions.

MM doesnt think black ladies should have shoes. She thinks they shoud be at home barefoot and pregnant making macaroni and cheese for their husbands after they get done picking cotton.

You are right, Riggs. The disenfranchised youth are being very naughty. They are being violent, starting fires and destroying property and they should not be doing any of it. They are still disenfranchised youth. I am not excusing it, I am merely looking at the underlying reasons for their frustration which is manifesting itself in said violence.

SS, your guess about why I do not approve of Condi buying shoes during a national crisis has nothing to do with the fact that she is a black lady. It is just that she is a senior member of our government and I think that during a national crisis she should be at work. Either that or I am just jealous because I cannot afford Ferragamo shoes. But that is probably just because I am a disenfranchised foreigner in a post-communist country.

Asshole, I read both of the articles you linked. Neither of them contradict the idea of disenfranchised youth. Whether they are rioting because of the electrocution deaths of the two teenagers or because of a police crackdown on drug-trafficking or, as you have said, because others have told them to, they are prone to react because they are disenfranchised youth. Unemployment amongst youth in the poor suburbs of Paris, you may or may not know is 50%. One of your articles mentions the 1992 LA riots. I suggest that the two sets of riots are analagous in that they are perpetrated by a segment of the population that feels disenfranchised. I have placed no blame for the disenfranchisement in either case, I am just calling it like I see it.

Paris seeks "hidden hands" in riots

This is an interesting article on Reuters today that offers opinions on both possibilities, i.e. that of disenfranchised youth and that of fundamendalists giving orders. Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in between (just a thought).

Another difference of opinion, this one from Agence France-Presse:

Popular daily Le Parisien said many of those arrested were previously known to police, calling the youths burning cars "a mix of delinquents, recidivists and 'part time' rioters".

In contrast, Liberation, said the rioters were inspired by a combination of anger, urban deprivation, unemployment, policing and "their hatred of Sarkozy".

Asshole, why do you think the two are mutually exclusive? Why can't disenfranchised youth invoke the name of Allah? I thought you had some understanding of Muslim culture.

I am irked that you do not value your work let alone carry such a shitty work ethic Max.
Get off your ass and do the meaningful work you want to do!
