Pioneers?!!

I received an e-mail today informing me of “Red Fridays”. Apparently the latest yellow ribbon trend is to wear red on Fridays, which is supposed to show support for our military overseas.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is on their side more than ever…

… THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED---- SO WEAR RED! --- MAY GOD HELP AMERICA TO BECOME ONE NATION, UNDER GOD.

But then I thought the whole thing must be a joke. Why red? That is the colour of Mao’s little book and the Soviet flag and communism itself. It has to be a joke. Otherwise what is the point? We already have yellow ribbons and “support our troops” bumper stickers. There is no way it can be anything other than a joke – every Friday would look like Young Pioneers’ parade day.

Can someone in The America please tell me that people have not fallen for this?!! Or, better yet, tell me that people have, and I will laugh my fat arse right off.

K, have you googled "red fridays"? I have, and it looks like it really is real. Weird.

I have since heard that Red Fridays do indeed occur in Texas.

I am wearing red today to make sure that they occur in the Max world too. This is how easy it is for me to amuse myself.

What if red's just not my color?

We're all wearing red on Fridays to signify the record financial debt our country has fallen into needlessly during the past 5 years, and which, if we're lucky, will bankrupt us leading to splintering and decentralization.

WE'RE IN THE RED--- SO WEAR RED! --- MAY GOD HELP AMERICA TO BECOME (AT LEAST) FIFTY NATIONS, UNDER THE GOD OF FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY.

Audie, that is an important point. The whole fiscal responsibility thing - yeah, but some people can wear red and others cannot. Red suits my dark colouring and people (and a Monkey) tell me I don't wear it often enough but, honey, you should probably avoid it.

"you should probably avoid it."

Yes, I should. It makes me constantly look as I would on an old, 1960s era RCA color console television -- you know, where the skin tone is never quite right, either too red or too green or somehow both at the same time. I'm happy to stick to m' blues and earth tones, dahling.
